She considers the feedback from the department head.
Thoughtful, concerned woman working on a laptop computer, thinking about the complaint.

The Comments

OrganicMix3499 Don't change. They can't even specify the problem. Until they do, there is literally no valid complaint. If it comes up again drop the magic words "hostile workplace" and say you'll have to look into your options.
KateKoffing They won't specify the problem because if they do you could quote them the dress code.

turandokht F that. Continue wearing what you were wearing and make them cite the handbook where it says you're not allowed to do that. Play stupid every time. "Oh it's against the dress code? Can I see that again, can you show me what part I'm failing to adhere to?"

hellyeah227 Appearance is genuinely harder for women in the workplace. With cost of living being high and wages being low, a lot of us don't have the cash to invest in makeup, hair cuts and styling, and put together outfits with accessories. I got feedback this winter where someone talked to my boss and then my boss relayed a series of vague comments about how I didn't look "pressed" (no ideal what that means since my clothes weren't wrinkled.) Then I got let go three weeks into the job with a s

theinternetseemsnice Until they can document a problem on and address it on the spot don't change a thing. You need to document this meeting what was said and no example was provided. Keep records of other hostile behavior. I guarantee this is coming from a woman.

ironicmirror Email the boss and the assistant Home Care manager and anyone who's higher up than you talk to about this and tell them that you are still do not know which outfits are problematic and you want the dress code in writing, or you want the actual words that the complaints were including so that will help you figure out which outfits they are talking about. Start to build up documentation on this, if they're going via some vague employee complaints, you may have other employees who don'

Thaldrath Have it documented. By HR, which exact piece of clothing does not respect the dress code exactly because of which line in the employee book. Tell it you want it for accuracy and future proofing. As long as she's not confronted directly and in a professional manner as to make her look explicitly bad in front of decision makers, it won't matter or change.

DJ1952 Your boss is useless. If someone complained about some of your outfits he should have asked your coworker to explain which outfits and why they were objectionable. To vaguely say that some coworker found some of your outfits inappropriate gives you no idea how to address the "problem". Tell your boss you are not going to guess in the dark about what to wear, so you will continue to dress as you have been.

VividZone8948 So, there was an email sent round and people were CC'd? Sounds like grounds to complain to HR for harassment. Because No. The head manager can NOT just decide that she doesn't like something. There is a dress code. It's not a dictatorship. One manager already said that she did not see anything wrong. If they don't like what you wear, and not g violates the dress code, they need to give you a clothing allowance.

Buckeye Bentley Tell them to pound sand. It sounds like your boss doesn't give a sh, and that's all that really matters.

TheMaStif Reach out to HR and ask for clarification on this situation. Ask for information on whether your dresses are violating dress code policy, and if it is not, then you believe you're being target of harassment. Ask them to document this instance of you being called "frumpy" for the way you dressed, while still compliant with the dress code. Ask them to track future instances as well
